Sweet Juices ain’t here to play w/ release “PRESSURE”

Sweet Juices is one of those MCs who has absolutely no problem letting it be known just how lethal she is on the mic. But what makes her presence even more important is that the work doesn’t stop with the music. She continues to show up in community, pour into others, and represent what it actually means to be an active participant in Chicago’s hip hop ecosystem, and she’s been working. With every release, Sweet Juices continues to sharpen what she already does well. The bars are getting stronger, the delivery feels increasingly effortless, and there’s a level of confidence in her music that doesn’t feel manufactured. She knows exactly what she’s capable of, and “PRESSURE” is another example of that..

The record has great replay value, the flows are sharp, and Sweet Juices sounds completely comfortable controlling the record. There’s an ease to the way she moves across production from Xcelence that can sometimes make you forget just how technically skilled she is. Nothing feels forced. Nothing feels like she’s trying to prove she belongs here. She already knows she does. Our biggest critique isn’t really about what’s missing from the record, it’s about what we believe Sweet Juices is capable of building next. We want a conceptual album. Sweet Juices is arguably one of the most equipped storytellers operating within Chicago’s hip hop community right now. She has the bars, perspective, community experience, personality, and lived history necessary to create something bigger than a collection of singles. We want to hear what happens when all of those pieces are placed inside one intentional world, whether that’s a full length conceptual album or a tightly constructed EP. Because hearing Sweet Juices rap is one thing. Getting the opportunity to live inside a complete Sweet Juices story could be something entirely different. “Pressure” reminds us that the skill is already there. Now we want the body of work..

Until then, take a listen and let us know what you think..
