Each record carries serious replay value, with incredible bar play coming from artists like Vic Spencer, Ju Jilla, Rufus Sims, IAMGAWD, True Foe, Daniel Son, A.M. Early Morning, Heavy Crownz, UFO Fev, Dunbar & Rim, Bunchy Cartier, Bub Rock, Sure Shot, Jamal Gasol, Panamera P, Defcee, Jae Haze, Waterr, Philmore Greene, & Backwood Jones, this project is showing some of Chicago Hip Hop’s very best. But what really makes this project work is it’s cohesiveness. The interludes, skits, sequencing, production, and overall atmosphere make it feel like something created by somebody who genuinely understands and respects hip hop as a culture, not simply as a genre of music. That distinction matters. Doc isn’t just putting artists over production. He’s curating a moment. Every voice feels intentionally placed, every transition contributes to the larger experience, and the project carries an identity that would be difficult for anybody else to replicate. If we have one critique, it’s that we want Doc to go even deeper into this direction. For years, people throughout Chicago have known Doc as the producer, the engineer, and the person behind countless records and sessions. But he’s also a curator with something to say about the community and culture he comes from. This doesn’t necessarily feel like a new chapter for Doc Da Mindabenda, It feels more like another layer of something that has been there the entire time, and something we would love to see pushed even further as the rollout continues. Chicago hip hop needs producers who understand that their role can extend beyond production. They can document an era. They can connect generations.
