Jinx The Natural is focused w/ release “decidete”
Jinx the Natural has always been one of those artists who remains visible not only throughout Chicago’s music scene, but across the industry as a whole. His music has consistently carried a strong presence, and with the recent releases he’s been putting out, that continues to show. His latest record, “Decidete”, feels like a newer sonic direction for Jinx, but one that fits him naturally. There’s a lot of replay value here, and the record shows a willingness to experiment without losing the identity that makes his music connect in the first place..
If there’s one thing we’d like to see elevated, it would be a little more attention to the mastering in certain moments to fully bring out the impact of what’s already there. But beyond that, there’s a lot to appreciate, not just from this record, but from the recent run of releases overall. More than anything, this feels like a sign that something larger may be on the horizon, whether that’s an album or a full project rollout. We definitely hope that’s the case..
There’s something about “Decídete” that feels immediate. The record doesn’t spend time trying to over explain itself, it moves with intention and lets the emotion sit front and center. From the first listen, the strongest thing that stands out is confidence. Not loud confidence necessarily, but the type that comes from knowing exactly what mood the record is trying to create. Sonically, this feels like a record that understands atmosphere. There’s a smoothness to the execution that makes it easy to revisit, but there’s also enough movement throughout the arrangement to keep it from becoming background music. It feels deliberate..
Once again one thing that works especially well here is restraint. The record doesn’t try to stack too many ideas on top of each other. Instead, it let’s the strongest moments breathe, and because of that, there’s a stronger connection to the feeling of the track overall. If there’s one area we’d want to see pushed even further, it would be leaning even harder into the moments that feel most distinctive, especially the moments on the record where there’s powerful barplay and melodies going off at once. There are pockets here that feel like they could become signature moments if expanded on in future releases..
Overall, “Decídete” feels like a record with repeat value and direction. More than anything, it sounds like an artist continuing to settle into their voice rather than chasing trends, and that usually leads to the most interesting bodies of work..
Take a listen to this & the recent releases and let us know what you think..
