Westside Don continues to build w/ release “It’s Lit Til It’s Not”

“It’s Lit Til Its Not” feels like a project that understands timing. The title itself feels like a statement about moments, how excitement, attention, celebration, confidence, chaos, success, energy, all of it eventually changes shape. This project feels aware of that cycle and leans into it instead of fighting it. What makes the project interesting is that it doesn’t feel interested in staying in one mood for too long. There’s an energy here that feels immediate and alive, but underneath that there’s also this quiet understanding that nothing lasts forever. That contrast gives the project personality..

Sonically, the experience feels built around momentum. Records feel like snapshots instead of long speeches, capturing feelings while they’re still fresh. There’s replay value because the project doesn’t overload itself trying to explain every emotion, it lets atmosphere do a lot of the work. There’s also something about the pacing. The project feels like moving through different rooms in the same night, moments of confidence, moments of reflection, moments where things feel bigger than they actually are, and moments where reality quietly returns. The strongest thing about “It’s Lit Til It’s Not” is that it doesn’t pretend the highs last forever. Instead, it documents them while they’re happening. Overall, this feels like a project built for people who understand that some seasons are loud, some seasons are quiet, and sometimes both exist in the same night..

One factor about Westside Don that we definitely want to continue seeing growth in is the reflective bar play. While “It’s Lit Til It’s Not” is definitely melodic, structured, and feels very intentional as a conceptual body of work, one thing that could elevate future releases even further is hearing him lean more into his pen. There’s nothing wrong with the singing or melodic direction at all, in fact, it helps give the project identity and makes the listening experience feel cohesive, but there are moments throughout where you can hear opportunities for Westside Don to step further into straight story telling rap performance and allow his writing to take more of the front seat in the sense of less flexing raps or taking shots & more authentic storytelling..

That said, the project still feels complete. The sequencing feels thoughtful, the concept remains consistent, and the overall atmosphere carries itself well from beginning to end. The features from Howie Stacks and other supporting contributors like I AM LO, add texture to the records and help expand the world that Westside Don is creating without taking away from his presence. Overall, “Its’ Lit Til It’s Not” feels like a detailed project that understands mood and direction. Moving forward, pairing this level of structure with more direct bar work could create an even stronger balance and show another side of Westside Don’s artistry. We hope there’s more coming from this release as it also sounds like there’s more on the way..

Until then take a listen and let us know what you think.
