Nakara Forje keeps creating quality sonics w/ release “Guns & Butter

Nakara Forje has always carried herself like an MC who understands that being able to rap is only part of the responsibility. There has to be intention behind it, and “Guns & Butter” feels like a record built around exactly that idea. The first thing that stands out is the production. There’s a soulful warmth underneath the record, but the drums still give every artist enough room to attack the beat differently. Nothing feels overly produced or crowded. Instead, the instrumental creates a pocket where the bars are allowed to be the centerpiece. And there are bars all over this record. Nakara sets the tone, but bringing Juice Lord, Southside Knucky, and Jordan Avent into the equation makes it feel less like a traditional feature heavy single and more like a gathering of different perspectives. Each voice brings it’s own cadence, personality, and approach without disrupting the overall direction of the song. Nobody feels like they were added simply for the sake of having another name attached to the record..

That chemistry is probably the strongest part of “Guns & Butter.” The transitions between voices feel natural, and despite having multiple artists involved, the record never loses it’s identity. There’s a looseness to the performances that makes it feel like everybody understood the assignment but was still allowed to be themselves. The record also isn’t afraid to take it’s time. In an era where records can feel designed around getting to the next moment as quickly as possible, “Guns & Butter” lets verses develop. It gives you time to actually sit with the writing, the personalities, and the production. Our biggest takeaway isn’t necessarily a critique of the record itself, we want to see more records like this become moments. There is enough chemistry here that “Guns & Butter” shouldn’t just live as another collaboration in a catalog. Put these artists in a room. Perform it live. Document the session. Give people an opportunity to see the energy behind what we’re hearing. Because “Guns & Butter” sounds like what happens when talented creatives are given space to simply rap, collaborate, and trust the record. Nakara has been very busy this year having just came off a amazing tour & preparing yet another extension to it already. To be able to put forth a record this powerful is something we have come to expect from Forje, We’re already prepared for the next project..
