Lamonae creates hard hitting sonics w/ release “Not Impressed”

Lamonae is definitely an artist with something to say, and her new single, “Not Impressed,” makes that clear from the jump. The record opens strong, the bar play is sharp, and there are moments throughout that make us feel like we’re only getting a glimpse of the larger story Lamonae has to tell. The production brings the listener in calmly and with style as we hear some very direct and powerful barplay..

Our one critique? We think it’s time for a project. Whether that looks like a conceptual EP or a larger body of work, we want something that gives us the opportunity to really understand Lamonae, not only as a woman MC, but as a Chicago artist navigating her own experiences, growth, identity, and place within the city’s evolving music ecosystem. “Not Impressed” feels like a strong introduction. Now we want the chapters that come after it..
