uaes event review: chicago hiphop salutes gq tha teacha

The world is just starting to know what Chicago hip-hop really looks and feels like and we are so here for it! For the longest time there has been a conversation about if the drill music movement had somehow overshadowed the other amazing genres of music that Chicago can manifest. Clearly that isn’t the case. Yet we know there are artists and innovators alike that are focused on challenging that narrative. One individual that’s working hard everyday to help artists like Brittany Carter, Freddie Old Soul, Rufus Sims, and others really make a change is the legendary connector and artist GQ tha Teacha..

GQ has helped so many artists in the city get even a little closer to their goals but it’s a lot more to this individual than that. GQ has been a connector of the Chicago music scene for over thirty years, helping shape the hip-hop community one day at a time. We are just now even learning all of the things that GQ has contributed to and it’s nothing but amazing how humble and genuine he is..

A night was curated to celebrate GQ’s strength, perseverance, and his phenomenal love for the cities music and it’s future. With performances from legendary acts such as Jesse Dela Pena, Intel Music Group, Soul Selectors, DJ Mustafa Rocks, Waterr, Goalden Chyld, Philmore Greene, Sweet Juices, and IAMGAWD the evening was filled with nothing but amazing barplay and culture that really depicts the Chicago hip-hop scene the right way..

Something that stood out to us though was when GQ spoke on how long it took to receive his flowers for his work and how we must change our inability to acknowledge the ones we care about until something grim happens. He asked that folks really take the time to understand that showing love is how the future of Chicago will become more safer for everyone. It really takes a village to help change the things we don’t like to speak on. No ego, no competition against other. Only collaboration and real dialogue about teamwork. GQ has been schooling all of us on this without a doubt..
