J Menace gets to it w/ release “Rock”

J Menace is an artist who is building momentum, and his new record, “Rock,” is definitely another example of that progression. The production provides a solid foundation for the record, but what really caught our attention was the bar play and the amount of personal perspective packed into the writing. There are moments throughout “Rock” that feel like pieces of larger stories, different circumstances, personal endeavors, obstacles, and situations that J Menace has had to navigate and ultimately overcome. It gives the record some weight beyond simply being something that sounds good..

Our biggest critique is really just that we want to hear more. “Rock” sounds like it’s coming from an artist who has a lot to say, but we’re only getting pieces of the larger picture right now. We want to understand more of J Menace’s story, his perspective, what shaped him, and the experiences behind some of these bars. There are enough ideas within this one record that it immediately makes us curious about what a conceptual EP or full length project from him could sound like if he really gave himself the space to tell that story from beginning to end. There’s something here worth continuing to build on..
