Patagonist holds nothing back w/ release “VOICEMAILED”
Patagonist is new to our radar, but his sound already feels like something worth paying attention to. There’s a rawness to his approach, but underneath that is a real understanding of bar work, storytelling, and how to make his perspective land. His new record, “VOICEMAILED,” is proof of that. The record feels like Patagonist getting some things off his chest without dressing them up too much. He touches on betrayal, standing on your word, holding your own, and navigating the realities that come with life and relationships. There’s conviction behind the bars, and that honesty gives the record its weight. It doesn’t feel like he’s reaching for something profound, he’s simply speaking from where he stands, and sometimes that hits harder..
We also got the opportunity to catch Patagonist perform at True Star Media’s recent From the Go Fest recently, and seeing the music translate live made the potential even clearer. He has the presence. He has the bars. Now we want to see what happens when all of that gets placed inside a larger body of work. That’s really our only critique, give us the project. Even if it’s just a tightly constructed EP, there’s enough happening here creatively that we want to hear Patagonist build an entire world around his sound instead of experiencing it one record at a time. Until then, “VOICEMAILED” is a strong introduction..
