Pinqy Ring comes out of hiding w/ release “Ave Maria”

Pinqy Ring is one of those artists, educators, and community builders whose impact on Chicago’s hip hop ecosystem goes far beyond what happens behind a microphone. For years, she has helped inform, educate, and create opportunities for others to understand the culture and genre of hip hop more deeply. But make no mistake, as an MC, Pinqy Ring is not a joke. That’s what makes “Ave Maria” such an important return. The record is polished from beginning to end. The mixing and mastering are extremely clean, and one of our favorite elements is the natural back and forth between Spanish and English. It doesn’t feel forced or used as a gimmick, it feels like another extension of Pinqy Ring’s identity, perspective, and command of the record..

Our biggest critique is simple, we need more. Pinqy Ring has become an OG and a teacher to many within Chicago’s hip hop community. The only downside to doing so much important work as an educator and community leader is that sometimes the artist herself can get pushed into the background. And with Pinqy Ring acknowledging that it’s been roughly four years since her last release, we think it’s time for that to change. We want the conceptual EP. We want the album. We want a body of work that allows Pinqy Ring to speak about who she is right now, as a woman, an MC, an educator, a community figure, and someone who has spent years helping preserve and push Chicago hip hop forward. “Ave Maria” reminds us that while Pinqy Ring has spent years teaching and uplifting others, the MC still has something to say. Now we just need more opportunities to hear her say it..

Until then, take a listen and let us know what you think..
